Engineering Team Lead – DDD & Event-Driven Systems

Sydney | Hybrid | $195k + Super

This is a role for senior engineers who’ve outgrown just being a Tech Lead – but don’t want to disappear into spreadsheets and people ops.

You’ll lead a team of 7–8 highly capable engineers, stay technically hands-on, and focus on removing friction so great engineers can do their best work.

Think second layer of engineering leadership – a step before full Engineering Manager.

What you’ll actually do

  • Lead 7–8 engineers with a mix of line management and technical leadership.

  • Start ~10–20% hands-on coding, increasing to 30–40% as systems and processes are streamlined.

  • Act as the technical conscience of the team – architecture, quality, and decision-making.

  • Remove obstacles, prioritise support work, and keep delivery flowing without burning people out.

  • Partner closely with Product, Principal Engineers, and Engineering Management.

  • Lift engineering maturity through better process, not bureaucracy.

  • You’re fluent in Domain-Driven Design, event-driven systems, and clean architecture.
